An Expression of Interest (EOI) followed by a visa application is required for this skilled migration visa. A visa application can be lodged only if your Expression of Interest is accepted and you are invited for a visa. The approximate time required for preparing documents is nearly 2-6 weeks and 2-4 months after post-lodgement of the file. To identify specific skill shortage in Australia, the Australian government has prepared the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) and The Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
One must be able to demonstrate its work experience and/or qualification matches an occupation that is on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), to apply for a visa that does not requires a state sponsorship.
State sponsored occupations are sponsored by an Australian State/Territory Government and occupations can be on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).

To record their details to be considered for a skilled visa through an Expression of Interest (EOI), SkillSelect is an online system that enables skilled workers interested in migrating to Australia. People intending to migrate to Australia may be invited by the Australian Government to lodge a visa application.
It is an indication that you would like to be considered for a skilled visa, an EOI is not the same as a visa application.
Depending on the visa you want to be considered for, You need to provide a range of information in your EOI. While you don’t need to submit documents supporting your claims when you submit your EOI, you must have a range of information prepared.
After you submit your EOI, an invitation to make a visa application may be issued very quickly and you will only have 60 days to lodge a completed visa application.
